Munkebo Seafood A/S was founded by Hawesta & Finn Tengberg Hansen in 1974 and the factory was placed in Munkebo. 

Hawesta was a german producer of cans, and Tengberg already has a conserved fish factory, and that is why this partnership was ideel. 

Hawesta was on the lookout for a place in Denmark, where there was ample access to female labor. Focus was on the women, as it was believed that they were far better at working on the assembly line than men, primarily because the women generally worked faster with their smaller hands.  

The factory was placed in the town of Munkebo, where the local shipyard, Lindø, employed 5,000 men, and thus there was ample access to female labor in the local area. 

Since its establishment, the company has mainly employed residents from the local area and still does so to this day. 

In January 2022, Munkebo Seafood became part of the Faroese company Bakkafrost, which specializes in breeding and supplying salmon. 

In total, aorund 1,644 employess work in various factories and departments in the USA, Scotland, the Faroe Islands and in Denmark. 

We are approximately 40 people at Munkebo Seafood divided between our administration, quality department, technical department, warehouse and production. 

We work together across the company to meet the increasing demand for tinned fish and canned soups of the highest quality.
